A Watanabe Affair in Miami(....Orlando....and Daytona Beach)

yeah..yeah...yeah... so it's been a while since I've posted a new blog.

There isn't a good excuse so I'm not going to make one.

Instead, I'm just going to pick up where I left off so very long ago.

Now where were we.........ah yes... Charline and Chantal's visit to the Sunshine State (That's Florida... for those of you who flunked Geography)

Arriving in Miami... nice and warm in Miami...
When we arrived in Miami, we were lucky enough to have some friends hook us up with a place to stay relatively close the the Anusara yoga workshop I was going to. The location we got to camp on was a one acre+ lot right on a man-made lake in the middle of bustling Miami! (yea.. it was pretty sweet)

Can't forget Gina

The yoga convention in Miami was THE best! I had done some yoga classes in New Orleans but they weren't the heart-opening energy lifting classes I was used back in San Diego. I have to say it was an absolute privilege to practice with the man who created the whole concept of Anusara Yoga. He is a mastermind at the practice and I would highly recommend anyone to take a John Friend workshop as he is currently traveling the world spreading the good word of Anusara.

My sisters actually arrived in Florida on the morning of the last day of the convention so I decided to hang out with them on my two hour intermission between yoga sessions. My classes ended at 12 and we were due back at 3 for the second half of the workshop. Well, after I left, I decided to stop by the local Whole Foods before getting the coach so that I didn't have to go after class. Let's just say that the roads in Miami are a bit confusing for someone who doesn't live there. There are expressways, highways, biways, and all the roads are named the same but NW vs SW!!! I was pretty pissed when I realized by the time I got home, I would have to turn around and drive back to the convention.

Our next stop was this state park called the John Dickinson State Park near the coastal city of Jupiter Island. It was here that we were to rent a canoe and see the HUGEST alligator that we have seen all trip!! It was INSANE how huge this creature was!!!

Hugest Alligator we've seen!!!!!

Check out the girth of his tail!

Of course, Jeff was documenting the whole canoe ride and I was the one who was "navigating" the canoe. As we neared the huge gator, Jeff told me to get closer so he could get a good angle on this massive creature. As we slowly drifted past the gator, he proceeded to open his gigantic jaws and hiss loudly at us!!! Not only that, but the current was pushing us to beach on the his shore. He then turned his head towards up and gave us another loud HIIIIISSSSS!!!

Needless to say, we were outta there after that.

I think I've said this before, but Florida has some of the best state parks in the country! Almost each one is located on some type of lake or river and the campsites are usually large, private, and surrounded by trees laced with spanish moss.

Pretty scenery on a Florida River

Can you find the hidden gator?

This was scary... and unstable.

Orlando was a stopping point before we made our way up to Daytona. Jeff had a friend there who offered to take us out on his boat.

We rolled into Daytona late at night. Since it wasn't officially Bike Week yet, we got lucky because it wasn't an absolute zoo on the main street.
